Our friends, Scott and Jessica, who are serving in a war torn area of the world, shared their hearts for the need of partnership. “We need people to come pray with us, walk the streets, share good will and strengthen the project we are launching with OCC.”
These words are echoed time and time again by our partners in the field. We have two teams that just left for Thailand. The Marketplace Team is a group of business professionals who are sharing their experience with Thai business people. From street vendors to corporate executives, there will be an exchange of information and, more importantly, of Christ’s compassion. “We believe God is going to use this team to move in the hearts of Thai business leaders to help invest in the work training center,” wrote Randy Nelson recently.
A short-term team is in training to go to India in February (8 more spaces are still available. Next training meeting is Sunday, November 12, at 6 pm in the 3 rd Floor Lobby). Our friend and partner Thom Wolfe implores us to “just show up!” We will be partnering with Thom and national leaders to teach English camps to the Dalits (the outcasts of society) and share Christ’s love in this very practical way. If you speak English, you qualify to come.
If you have a willing heart and desire to serve, you can serve a meal to the needy in S. Africa or hold babies at the HIV/Aids orphanage we support in E. Africa. You can use your ability to speak English and go to India and Asia to build bridges of love. We need women to reach out to immigrant women in France, isolated by Islam. You could use your love for sports in SE Asia or your construction ability in Spain and Morocco. Or join the Emergency Response Team and respond with Christ’s love to emergencies anywhere in the world. These trips are starting to form NOW. Please pray and consider going on one of these opportunities. Any of these links will take you to the complete list of the Short Term Trip Opportunities. YOU can make a difference.
INDIA OUTREACH
FEBRUARY, 2007
PURPOSE OF THE TRIP:
To mobilize the body of Christ at Overlake to help support our partners’ efforts of seeing India reached for Christ.
GOALS:
- Train and equip local leaders
- Participate in a new partnership with the India Ministry of Education where we will be impacting students for Christ through English practice conversations.
- Support the church planting efforts among the Ansari Muslims by prayer walking in their communities, interacting with people on the street and being a light for God's Kingdom.
- Provide opportunities for first time short term trip participants to see what God is doing around the world and to help them see how they fit into God's plan of reaching the nations.
WHO CAN GO?
- The February trip is for anybody of all ages. We would love to see families go as well as couples and singles.
- If you can lead a conversation in English, pray, or if you desire to see how you might fit into how God is working around the world then this trip is for you.
WHAT WILL WE DO?
- The team will divide into groups for ministry each day. Some will co-teach under the direction of a national pastor hundreds of church planters, leaders and pastors. Another group will go into a neighborhood and lead English conversations while the third group will prayer walk and intercede for the Ansari Muslims.
- Be available for opportunities that God provides (being invited into homes of Ansari, speaking with people on the street, etc.)
- Throughout all you will be experiencing the sights & sounds of a culturally diverse nation. A nation with over one billion individuals and one of the world's most well known buildings the Taj Mahal.
WHAT IS THE COST?
- Trip cost is approximately $2800 including roundtrip air to Delhi, in country travel, lodging, meals and water.
WHERE WILL WE SLEEP AND WHAT WILL WE EAT?
We will be staying in comfortable hotel housing with beds, western toilets, and warm showers. We will eat mostly at restaurants, trying some unique and different things during the week. Bottled drinking water is amply supplied and readily available. The trip training process will walk you through what to eat and not eat when you travel to India.
WHAT DO I DO NEXT?
- Pray about your involvement. Ask mentors or Christian friends to pray with you about this opportunity.
- Get a passport if you don’t already have one.
- Contact Marc and Lisa Bauman at 425-821-0603; marceb@msn.com or lisafb@hotmail.com to answer any questions about the trip.
