Let's officially welcome your child to OCC!
Child Dedications happen at Overlake on a regular basis. All of the info you need, including dates, is found below. If you have lingering questions, please email or call 425.284.2543.
What is Child Dedication?
It's when parents commit, before both God and man, to raise their child in the ways of the Lord. It's a public statement of intent, basically calling on the church to witness and even assist in your commitment to parent your children based on the teachings of Jesus through His Word.
It's not commanded, so it's a lot different than baptism. It doesn't mean your child will go to heaven or sleep through the night or be able to do algebra by age 3. It's more for the parents than the child, actually.
It is modeled in Scripture, though. We see it in the book of 1 Samuel and in the book of Luke. Samuel's mother dedicates him to God's service as a baby; Joseph & Mary take Jesus to the Temple when He is a baby as well.
If you commit to raising your child in a God-centered, Jesus worshiping, Spirit lead home... You should dedicate your children at Overlake!

"Dedication Class" is Required First
In order to have your child dedicated at Overlake, you must attend a short meeting, hosted by the Children's Pastor (Bob Lee). We are hosting this mandatory class for 3 reasons: 1) So you get to know the other parents of children at OCC. 2) So we're on the same page theologically concerning dedications. 3) So we celebrate and have discussions about parenting the children God has entrusted to us.
The class is always held 1 Sunday prior to dedication dates, during the 11am service, in Room Blue 4. This classroom is behind the nursery in the blue wing. You can locate it on the map in KidTown Station or ask any friendly face for help in getting there.
Upcoming Dedications
Sunday, June 3rd. Registration is: OPEN (By registering, you are signing up for the Dedication Class on May 27th and the Sunday Morning Dedication on June 3rd during thte 9:20am service.)
Sunday, September 2nd. Registration is: OPEN (By registering, you are signing up for the Dedication Class on August 26th and the Sunday Morning Dedication on September 2nd during thte 11am service.)
Sunday, December 2nd. Registration is: OPEN (By registering, you are signing up for the Dedication Class on November 25th and the Sunday Morning Dedication on December 2nd during thte 9:20am service.)
*Note: You need to attend both the class & the dedication. If you cannot attend the class, we'll probably ask you to wait until the following dedication. (We do it every 2 months, so the wait isn't too long!)
