Issues in Biblical Counseling

This class includes rich discussion and case studies on some of the most common issues that one may experience or be asked by someone for help. Completion of Fundamentals class is required. This class, taught by Pastor Larry Bodmer, is typically offered each spring.

Advanced Class Syllabus

This class is designed for those who have basic counseling training and want to learn more about the most common helping situations. Fundamentals In Biblical Counseling is a prerequisite for this class.

    Bearing another’s burdens can be overwhelming. Learn how to protect yourself and maximize your effectiveness.
  • Forgiveness and Repentance
    Discover biblical precedence for lasting forgiveness and the role of repentance.
  • Unrealistic Expectations
    This issue destroys many relationships. Learn how to counsel someone through these situations.
  • Anatomy of Conflict
    Learn what causes conflict, how to diffuse it and how to learn from it.
  • Anatomy of an Affair
    Learn how to counsel someone through the pain of an affair with the goal of reconciliation.
  • Depression and Suicide
    Fundamental issues of depression will be discussed and how to know when to refer a depressed person for more help. Learn how to respond to a suicide situation.
  • Domestic Violence in the Home
    Learn the dynamics of abuse, victimization and general guidelines to counsel victims or perpetrators.
  • Childhood Sexual Abuse
    The impacts of these violations typically appear later in life or marriage. This study looks at the dynamics of abuse to better understand the ramifications in adult life and ways of reaching out to a victim off sexual abuse.
  • Sexual Addictions
    Sexual addictions have become Satan’s key attack against families and the church. This study looks at the web of entanglement, causes and cycles of addictions.
  • Ministering to the Wives of Sex Addicts
    Women often experience the ultimate betrayal when she learns of her husband’s sexual addiction. You will learn how to come alongside, bring hope and encouragement to her.
