Biblical Counseling FAQs

IS THERE A FEE FOR BIBLICAL COUNSELING?

No, this is a ministry of Overlake Christian Church. Scripture tells us, “For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also” (Matt 6:21).  If you choose, you can make a free will offering to OCC.

HOW MANY SESSIONS WILL I HAVE WITH A COUNSELOR?

We focus on short term counseling of 8 to 10 sessions. This may be extended by the Pastor of Counseling.

WHAT HOURS ARE COUNSELORS AVAILABLE?

Counselors are available during daytime and evenings hours: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Sunday.

WHERE WILL I MEET WITH THE COUNSELOR?

All counseling sessions will be at Overlake Christian Church, unless authorized by the Pastor of Counseling.

IS THE BIBLICAL COUNSELING CONFIDENTIAL?

Yes.  State law requires all counselors to report certain situations to authorities. Full disclosure of this will be in the beginning of your first session. The counselor may consult with the Pastor of Counseling occasionally.

HOW DO I APPLY FOR COUNSELING?

Please complete this application and then fax, email or snail-mail it to Overlake Christian Church or drop it off the next time you're at OCC (Reception Office during weekday office hours or at the Mallway Information Center on Sunday).

IS THERE A WAITING LIST?

Our goal is to connect you with an available counselor in a few days.  The more times you are available helps. (See question 6 on back of the application.)

WHO WILL MEET WITH ME?

Women offer biblical counsel to women and men counsel men; and as much as possible, couples counsel other couples.

DO THE COUNSELORS HAVE PROFESSIONAL CREDENTIALS?

The counselors are trained to bring biblical perspective, guidance, and extensive life experiences to your situations. They are not professionals.

CAN YOU REFER ME TO A CHRISTIAN PROFESSIONAL THERAPIST, PSYCHOLOGIST, OR PSYCHIATRIST?

Yes, we have a referral list primarily for the Eastside. We do not know the fee structure or which insurance coverage is accepted. Most counselors specialize in certain issues. We can give you better referrals if we know:

  1. What is the general reason you are seeking help?
  2. Do you want to meet with a male or female mental health professional/therapist?
  3. Where on the Eastside would you prefer to locate a therapist?
