stw// About Serve the World

What is Serve the World?
Serve the World is one of 3 purposes of our church: Love God, Love People, and Serve the World.  As a church, we desire that every believer be living on mission with God in our personal lives, our families, our local communities and around the the world.  As a church we are committed to help equip and connect you with opportunities to do just that!

Why Overlake is Committed to Serving the World
God is on a mission and he is inviting us to join Him.  He has given us the Great Commission to "make disciples of all nations" and he is calling us to "proclaim good news to the poor, bind up the brokenhearted, and set the captives free." God cares deeply for the nations, the poor, the vulnerable, and the marginalized and we are determined to do the same.

Our Mission Investment
Overlake is invested in over 30 partnerships both locally and globally with whom we support through prayer, Short Term Teams, and financial giving.  These partnerships include many missionaries who have been sent out from Overlake.  We invite you to learn more about our Local Outreach and Global Outreach and how you can get involved!

Countries/Regions We Work
USA, Kenya, Thailand, Ethiopia, Israel/Palestine, Spain, Chile, Peru, Ecuador, North Africa, Sierra Leone, Middle East, Greece, Italy, Arabian Peninsula, South Asia, East Asia, Indonesia, Philippines, and Puerto Rico.

Our Primary Initiatives
The majority of our ministries fall under these main categories and here is why:

  • Human Trafficking
Currently it is estimated there are around 40 million modern day slaves. We believe that no person should ever be used for labor or sex at the profit of another.  This is slavery and we as a church are dedicated to standing up for those who cannot speak for themselves.

  • Refugee Outreach
Currently there are nearly 71 million people worldwide who have been forcibly displaced from their homes due to violence, oppression or religious persecution.  These are people without a place to call home.  The Bible speaks clearly as to our role as a church to welcome and provide for the alien.

  • Vulnerable Children Ministries
OCC is passionate about helping the millions of vulnerable or fatherless children who live right here in our neighborhoods as well as around the world.  We firmly believe that no child should ever have to feel afraid, alone, neglected, abused, or forgotten.

  • Peace & Reconciliation Work
We believe that no person should ever be discriminated against or persecuted based on their race, gender, religion, or socioeconomic status.  We believe we are all created equally in the image of God and therefore each and every person has dignity and worth.  We are committed to do the difficult work of education and building bridges.

  • Church Planting
Currently 3.19 billion people do not have access to the Gospel and sadly less that 3% of the missionary force are working among the unreached.  We hope to see this statistic change through equipping and resourcing pastors and leaders around the world who are part of multiplying church planting movements among the least and the lost.
